Teaching Good Habits Starts Early

You want your child to have the best hygiene possible. Remember the “stinky kid” from elementary or middle school who never seemed to shower and always wore the same clothes, even though you may have seen their mom or dad bring them fresh clothes at the teacher’s request? Help your child avoid this problem by teaching good habits early on.
One of the ways you can help your child is by bringing them to a children’s spa and salon. While it seems like this is a way for kids to get even more pampered, this can be a great opportunity for parents and children alike to learn more about health, hygiene, and proper care of skin, hair and nails.
So what are some good habits you should teach your children? Consider the topics below.
1. Stay clean. While it would be nice if there was a hard-and-fast rule about this, it may vary from person to person. Some people need to shower twice a day, while others can manage with a shower or bath once or twice a week. Exercise, puberty, and warm weather make it necessary to shower even more than usual, so make sure to stay on top of it.
2. Sunscreen. Most older adults are concerned with wrinkles, and spend hundreds of dollars per year on anti-aging and anti-wrinkle treatments. So what does this have to do with your kids? Lots of skin problems, including minor problems like wrinkles and major problems like skin cancer, can be prevented by properly applying and reapplying sunscreen. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that can help protect for many hours.
3. Hydrate. This refers to your skin and your stomach! Try to drink at least 8 8-oz glasses of water per day, and moisturize your skin with lotions, creams, or whatever else to ensure that your skin is not dry.
4. Keep your nails tidy. This is more than just looking good—clean nails can promote good health, and ragged nails can accidentally tear skin. While some children might be interested in nail art from a children’s salon, others may be set with a simple clip, file, and wash.
